essicazione all'aria - air-drying bicomponente - two-pack

Uses

It's the only coating for fuel tanks that meets IMO and ASTM requirements and is identified by an international MED number. Used for many years by leading yacht, superyacht, merchant ship, oil tanker and navy ship builders.

Main features

Painting teams at major shipyards value the product for its:

  • ease of application by roller and brush
  • complete absence of odours and harmful fumes

K39's technical worth is evident in its application on large vessels, whose coatings are still holding perfectly over ten years on.

The special composition gives the product highly flexible reinforcing and sealing properties, enabling it to strengthen structures and guarantee that all risk of the highly hazardous fuel leaking out is eliminated.

Mechanically, it is very adhesive and strong; the solid glaze that forms on the surface makes it very hard and impervious to attack.

ASTM/IMO certified as fire retardant, international MED number 121.

Treatment of surfaces to be coated

  • Metal: steel and aluminium with a rough surface usually just need a good clean, with manual or automatic means, being extra careful to remove greasy residues.
  • When dealing with stainless steel, aluminium and other metals with a smooth, reflective surface, the surface will need to be prepared by abrasive blasting or brushing to promote maximum adhesion.
  • Fibreglass: make sure the substrate is thoroughly clean and entirely free from dust and residues, cleaning the surface with solvents or degreasing detergents. It may help to abrasive blast or sand the surface to promote better adhesion.
  • When dealing with tanks made from polymers like PP and PE, special adhesion promoters may need to be applied, or you may need to employ other pretreatment systems, in addition to the above-mentioned abrasive blasting and sanding.

For cleaning the metal surfaces the suitable diluent is DPM01

For cleaning the plastic surfaces the suitable diluent is DPP02

Application

The product is really easy to apply by roller or brush. The high level of viscosity means it cannot be applied by spraying.

The coating can be applied to a very high thickness, in the order of 200-300 microns; be careful to apply the product thoroughly, reaching all corners of the tank.

To make extra sure all areas have been coated, we recommend applying a second coat after the first has been left to dry for 24 hours, building the coating up to a final thickness that may even exceed 500 microns.

This is a ready product that can be used to cover an area of approx. 4 square metres per kilogram of coating, based on a thickness of 250 microns.

KIT composition example

3 Kg (2 Kg of product A + 1 Kg of product B)

Yield

6 m2 with 1 KIT by applying a thickness of 500 µm.
